殊 勝 處
眾所週知,南傳上座部佛教非常重視修行道次第,其長部第二經──《沙門果經》,即是佛陀第一部最詳細、最有次第性指導修行的經典;寂靜禪林住持開印比丘於2004年夏安居禪修期間開講,直至2006年元月講畢,長達一年半載的時間,共126講次,即是希望能將此殊勝的經典,完整的宣說一次。

沙 門 義
佛陀時代有別於傳統婆羅門之外的修行者,但都稱沙門 (samana)。「沙門」本義可通於剃除鬚髮、止息諸惡、善調身心、勤行諸善的外道沙門,及期趣證涅槃的佛教沙門兩種。據《大毘婆沙論》卷66中載,沙門可分類為下列四種:(一)勝道沙門、(二)示道沙門、(三)命道沙門、(四)污道沙門。

現世利益 ─ 沙門果義
阿闍世王請教佛陀:沙門是否同樣可以像世人一樣靠謀生技能而得現報呢?不要像外道要等死了之後才知道是否得利。佛法中處處提到現世利益(當下就能體會的果報),例如:戒、定、慧、神通等。佛陀在這部經典中宣說十四種沙門果:1.脫離奴隸2.不需納稅3.初禪4.第二禪5.第三禪6.第四禪7.智見(觀智)8.意生身智 9.神變智10.天耳智11.他心智12.宿命智13.天眼智14.漏盡智(最殊勝與崇高的沙門果)。

本經的修行道次第
十四種沙門果中,前二沙門果,指出家之後不必再服侍國王及免交稅金,還獲得了國王的禮敬、供養的現報利益。之後的十二種沙門果,它必須從小分戒、大分戒,到正念、正知、知足、棄除五蓋的基礎紮根起,才有可能證得色界四禪、八智(觀智、諸神通智及漏盡智)。從戒→定→慧→神通→漏盡智,層次非常有系統地循序漸進,直到圓滿解脫。
